WHO WE ARE

When Francois and Jaap met in 2011, they weren’t necessarily planning to revolutionise the South African Wine Industry. The winemaker-accountant duo’s combined curiosity, a touch of rebellion, and out-of-the-box (or was that bottle?) thinking made it inevitable. Renegade Wines came to life in December 2018. In a first of its kind in South Africa, they canned their first wine in February 2019. Against the backdrop of a traditionalist South African Wine Industry, it was risky. Still, the research made sense, and many other brands soon followed.

The pair combined their knowledge and brought an innovative business approach to the wine industry. Creativity, challenging the norm, and kicking wine traditions out of sight is at the core of Renegade Wines. As such, the team was recognised by the Western Cape Government in 2020 for its Innovative Approach to business with a Western Cape Entrepreneurial Recognition Award.

Since the launch of their own brand (CANCAN) in 2019, they have been instrumental in launching South African canned wine for a number of national and international entrepreneurs and restaurateurs.

After a successful launch of canned wine for the international market, 2025 saw the release of the team’s first wine in bottle. For 2026 there are some exciting plans on the drawing board.
